August 15 - 16, 2011
In this experiential seminar, participants engage in an encounter between the expressive arts and traditional Andean culture in Ollantaytambo, Cusco, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Ollantaytambo is located between Cusco and Machu Picchu at 2800 meters above sea level and was built by the Incans between the XV and XVI century. Today the stone streets are still in use by the people, who have also built houses on top of Incan foundations. From the city one can see the great Temple of the Sun, the last place where the Incas fought against the Spaniards.
TAE Peru has been doing an international seminar in this city for several consecutive years exploring and investigating the encounter of traditional Andean arts with the expressive arts. (See: www.taeperu.org/programa.htm )
Participants will need to fly from Lima to Cusco on August 15. From the Cusco airport, they will be transferred by TAE staff to their hotels. At night, participants will share a dinner and an Andean ceremony to “contact the ancient world of the Incas,” preparing for the next day. On the morning of August 16th, we will start our tour early in the archaeological site of Moray, an important Incan site used as an agricultural laboratory. Here participants will be invited to respond to the sacred place with arts and movement in an unforgettable experience guided by the TAE Peru team.
